Big Sky Baptist Church
(Formerly First Southern)
Established in 1953, First Southern Baptist Church was one of the first Southern Baptist churches in Montana. Through its sponsorship and support, churches were established in Great Falls and throughout North Central Montana. Up until the 1990’s the church’s membership consisted largely of military families, either active or retired. As the base began to downsize the church saw fewer military families. Throughout our history we have seen times of growth with a solid membership and also lean times.
We have a combined mission giving to the Cooperative Program and the two seasonal mission emphasis offerings. We also support work on an Indian reservation, Yellowstone Baptist College, State Literacy Program, Echoz, Great Falls Rescue Mission and Opportunities, Inc.
Dave Strand was called as the new pastor on August 1, 2016.
On June 4th, 2017 we had a revival where God spoke to people to make changes in their life.
On June 27, 2017 we were blessed to hear the Haining Gospel Family sing and play for us. (They are returning next year)
On July 10-13th we had Vacation Bible School and had 27 kids in attendance. We had a team from Ridge View Baptist from Dumas, Ms to
help and encourage us to do that.
Our church members are young at heart. We have some lovely ladies who make lap quilts for nursing homes. This last December, they gave 38 quilts out to three different nursing homes. Almost every Wednesday, the ladies come to sew and fellowship, to get that task completed.
We are looking for God to open up other doors for our church to reach out to our community. We are praying without ceasing, as our Lord leads. We are excited to serve God who is constantly on the move and we look for how God is helping us to ‘Live in the faith zone, not the safe zone.’
